How to Increase Your Web Site’s Traffic

Traffic can really make or break your website.
If you crank out piece after piece of great content, yet no one reads it, it can be demoralizing. (This, I think, is why most bloggers quit after a few months.)
If you have a great product or service that you know can help a lot of people, but no one knows about it, and you’re on a limited budget, it can seem impossible to get your business off the ground.
I understand. I’ve been in both of those places, and in both of those cases, traffic can help. Today, I’ll take you “behind the scenes” and show you one of the big ways I grew a business in a highly competitive industry to the $1 million mark, and also how I grew this blog to one that gets massive traffic every month–in the top 0.1% of all websites by traffic, according to Alexa.
Then I’ll show you how you can do the same thing…and grow your business by leaps and bounds without killing your wallet by buying advertisements.

The Big Myth: Just Write Great Content, and the Search Engines Will Love You

This big myth gets uttered all the time. It might have been true years ago. The theory behind this is, interestingly, never explained. Basically, it goes like this: Good content gets links from other sites. Those links count as “votes” for that content, which naturally drives your content to the top of the search engines for relevant terms.
There are all sorts of holes in this theory. The biggest problem is that most content creators really haven’t matched their content to what people are searching for in Google or other search engines. You can write a really awesome article about the best hotels for people traveling with dogs, but if your article title is “How Cutesi the Chihuahua and I Traveled the Country In Style”, well, no one will find it through Google because no one is searching for those words!
So, the first step in getting Google and other search engines to recognize your content as “good content” and send you free traffic is to title your blog posts and home page appropriately. Use the free Google Keyword Tool to find what people are searching for in Google, and target those phrases.
The second step is to get backlinks.

Getting Backlinks

What are backlinks? Backlinks are simply a link from another site to your site. You might have heard that links are important, but the real key is the anchor text: the text people use in their links back to your site.
That anchor text on the other site counts as a “vote” in Google for that phrase, for your site. Here’s a real-world example: This site is named Erica.biz. So, when someone links back to my site, they often use the text erica.biz. The link looks like this: erica.biz
Unfortunately, this is nearly worthless for me in Google, because Google is counting this as a vote for the keyword “erica.biz”. I’m already ranked #1 for that keyword. Even worse, people typing in that keyword already know who I am, so it’s not a great keyword to optimize for.

Tricks With Google Adsense

Here is a compilation of some of the best adsense tips that will surely increase your adsense earnings. I know a lot of people use adsense as their source of income so here is the list the i made to help you earn more!
  1. Blend adsense with your contentYour adsense should not look like an ads but should look like a content. So make the colors of your adsense and the background blend with your content. People today avoid ads as much as possible so this is a very important thing to consider when deciding with the colors of your adsense. If you want to make people click on your adsense then make them look like a part of your content.
Also, when choosing the color of you adsense title, i highly recommend blue (#0000FF). The explanation why blue is the best is pretty simple, it is the most common color for links so people will right away know that it is a link. It is not important that your content title and adsense title should have the same color because using blue for your adsense title works best.
  2. Make the url go awayIt is against the rules of Google if you make it invisible to the eyes of the people. One trick to do that is to change it’s color same with the content color of your ads so it will not look like a url.
  3. Remove the bordersBlend the border color of your ads with your background color so it will not be visible. It can help to blend your ads with your content because if you put borders in your ads, it will look more like an ads and not a good idea.
  4. What type of ads to choose from adsenseThere are a lot of ads to choose from adsense but one of the most used is the 728 x 90 (leaderboard). This is best to use if you are just starting with adsense and best placed at the top of your page (usually under the header title). You can also place it between your conent and it blends well with your content. Also, avoid placing ads in your footer because not a lot of readers would go that far.
If you don’t have much space for ads, you can also consider using the 468 x 60 (Banners) and 234 x 60 (Half-Banners). You can also place them at the top or in between you content just like the leaderboards. You can experiment by using different ads a week and use the one with the best results.
I recommend not using the 468 x60 (Banners) type of ads because it is one of the most commonly used one so if you use it, people will know right away that it’s an ads so they will AVOID it. Just like what i said, people avoid ads as much as possible so it’s not a good idea to use the 468 x 60 (Banners).
From my experience, the 336 x 280 (Large Rectangle) had the MOST CLICKS because it is the type of ads that blends best with the content.
If you want to place ads in your sidebars, you can choose from 160 x 600 (Wide Skyscraper), 120 x 600 (Skyscraper), and 120 x 240 (Vertical Banner). These are the best type of ads that will fit in your sidebar.
  5. Don’t put too much ads on your siteAvoid putting a lot of ads in your site because if you do that, people will lose interest in visiting your site because people want good content and not ads. So we can use the quality over quantity where we place only a few ads but has good placements.

The Top 5 IPhone Apps, How Technology Rocks Our Lifes

We’ve learned to live with everything literally at our fingertips. With our entire lives (or at least as developers would like us to think) on our smartphones or feature phones, the recently released Nielsen Mobile Apps Playbook is more than market research on mobile usage. It’s a quick view of what matters to the modern urbanite. The proliferation of mobile phones has signaled how we love to be connected 24/7 and easy to reach with just a few quick keystrokes. The mobile apps we choose to download are a great indicator of what activities or utilities we find most important. If we are to believe the Playbook, then we spend a good amount of time in our lives playing, checking up on other people’s lives, finding our way around and avoiding a forecasted downpour. But, what do the top 5 iPhone apps say about modern living?

In terms of downloads, game still rank as the first.

With games being downloaded the most, it’s less about fun and games but about being entertained while travelling or waiting. So a game like ‘Angry Birds’ that requires a simple understanding of how things move when they are thrown and an insatiable appetite for the foolish and absurd would definitely become a phenomenon. The tired and bored wired urbanite would appreciate this twist on the Three Little Pigs–the pigs have becomes wolves stealing eggs from the said flightless birds and in retaliation, the birds have built a large slingshot. If that doesn’t make you curious, know that those who have purchased the game have only praise for it. Besides there’s always a free version that will only pique your appetite for this Top iPhone app.

The weather’s not just for small talk, people need to know.

When you live in a country with four seasons, the weather can pretty much control your life. Life is simpler in the tropics where there is only hot, hotter and wet and wetter. But with the free mobile application for the iPhone from The Weather Channel, you can plan your day with the same accuracy you can expect from all the other mobile apps. What makes this mobile app a winner is that it makes the information easy to access and in an efficient manner, too. When this much information is at your fingertips, any elegance goes a long way.

With so much information on the web, remembering everything has become a daunting task.

Think of a stack of post-it notes, to which you can attach videos, photos and text. Then have the ability to annotate and tag them. Let’s not forget the ability to add a voice note or to plot it on a map. Throw in the fact that you can search through them or browse via thumbnails you scroll through. And you’ve got Evernote’s mobile app. This Top 5 iPhone app brings new dimension, literally the word everywhere, to their tagline, Remember everything.

We live on Facebook and Twitter

Taking notes from the elegant UI of the iPhone, the official Facebook and Twitter mobile apps employed grids with their own familiar user interfaces. The better to stalk and tweet you with, it seems. Except that if you think about just how much information is on these websites, an elegant reader-friendly UI is the only way to go. Though it must be considered that the popularity of these official mobile applications has more to do with the websites’ popularity.

Your music to go, just as you like it.

The iPhone was designed on the structure meant to keep your music with you at all times. But with Pandora, our last iPhone app, it seems that you might not need to actually keep all your music on your phone anymore if you can ensure that you’ll always have a connection. Pandora allows its users to stream music according to preferences and parameters they’ve preselected, and with its rating system, Pandora learns and is able to refine your listening choices. Now if that doesn’t sound like a sci-fi film. You’ve got modern living, with occasional music.

The Changing Face Of Human Resource Management

The rapid and ground-breaking developments in technology and globalization and the development of a knowledge-based economy over the past few decades have necessitated tremendous, concomitant changes in the human resources (HR) space.

The role of HR management has changed significantly in the modern business context. What was better known as Industrial Relations/Personnel a few decades ago began to be called HR, and is today becoming better known as Human Capital Management (HCM). This, however, is not merely a change in euphemism for the department that manages employee-related issues—it is representative of a significant metamorphosis, or evolution, of the HR function into an entity that is increasingly being considered a strategic part of organizational development and success. The previous HR focus on process and administration of the organization has now shifted to employee engagement and obtaining the most effective performance from employees. Thus, enhancing human capital is the future face of HCM.

The most significant factor that has contributed to this change is the transformation of the nature of work itself. Over the span of just a few generations, society has moved from being largely agrarian to industrial to knowledge-based. Thus, from a requirement for manual skills, we have moved to the need for knowledge (the sum total of a person's experience, education and expertise).

Let us define the HR executives of the future—they need to be proactive handlers of the global talent pool, knowledge experts on talent sources, coaches to the organization on linking business outcomes to human capabilities, managers of organizational partnerships (outsourcers), facilitators of organizational transparency to all stakeholders and teachers to incoming talent (which means that they are likely to themselves be highly educated individuals). In this process of evolution, as HR executives increasingly become facilitators and strategists, what are the skill sets and competencies they need to take to the next level?

The growing need for HR to be more versatile and qualified than their counterparts of a few decades ago is reflected in an increase in the number of HR-related degrees being offered by universities—full-time, part-time, distance education and online courses in subjects such as MBA with concentration in Human Resources Management or in Organizational Behavior, M.S. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and M.S. in Human Resources Development/Management. Currently, 318 U.S. universities/colleges offer programs in various aspects of HR education, of which 67 offer a doctoral program. The number of bachelor's degrees awarded in human resource management in the U.S. increased by 88% between 1987-88 and 2003-04 (total number of degrees increased by 41%), while the master's degrees increased by 276% (total number of degrees increased by 87%), and doctorates by 125% (total number of degrees increased by 39%). This means that the need for higher levels of education is clearly recognized.

At the same time, mere knowledge about HR processes and functions, although essential, is not enough. The application of this knowledge to increase productivity and tie employees' capabilities to the performance of the organization is also not enough. What the HR executive now needs encompasses these competencies and moves beyond them to the crucial components for success—a comprehensive understanding of the business processes of the organization (including the financial aspects), a grasp of emerging technologies that they can use to their advantage, a thorough knowledge of the stakeholders' and investors' needs, the ability to identify market trends that might affect the organization, the skills to make accurate predictions about future HR requirements (including the ability to assess the best fit for a job) and the ability to weed out or re-channel the competencies of poor performers. Added to all these factors now is the critical need to develop a global outlook as many organizations now span many countries and time zones, in addition to having an increasingly diverse workforce. Understanding what makes the latter tick and how to handle them is a crucial factor in the endeavor to extract the best possible performance from them.
The other challenge for HR practitioners is the perception that they need to pay more attention to metrics—and these must be the right kind, not those tracked merely for the sake of measurement. Key metrics that have been suggested, in addition to those that traditionally measure performance and efficiency, are those based on employees' assessments of how well an organization is doing in meeting their requirements, based on the premise that they will provide a foundation for measuring and managing an organization's human capital advantage. The next step is analyzing these metrics with a view to improvement where there is a perceived shortfall, and then actually implementing the improvements.
In his book "Winning," Jack Welch made the controversial statement that Human Resources in an organization needs to be elevated to a position of substantial power, possibly equal in importance to the CFO. This might sound heretical, but could quite possibly be the way of the future. After all, 60 – 70% of organizational spending comprises people-related costs, and sheer economics should dictate that HR be an important force in the organization. Furthermore, research has proved beyond doubt that HR really does make a difference to business outcomes. As HR evolves into a more strategic role, it will be able to have a greater say in where the organization is going.

In the long run, successful strategy implementation requires total alignment of the technical system, the social system, and the business process system—and HR is the function that can optimize this. Aligning employees and their knowledge and expertise in tandem with the tools and systems they use with the organization's vision, goals and business strategy is the new role HR needs to play. For this, they need to attain the fine balance between the competencies mentioned above and their own instincts, honed by experience and gut feel. Although this is far from simple, it can be done, with phenomenal results for your talent management strategy.
The business world is changing and adapting even as we read this—can HR keep up? With new strategies for performance management and new technologies in HR software the answer has to be yes.
